Gregory Peck photographed shortly after he finished the infamous scene in Roman Holiday where he pretends that his hand was bitten off in the mouth of a stone carving, scaring Audrey Hepburn to death.  The joke was ad-libbed by Peck, borrowing the gag from Red Skelton.  Prior to shooting the scene, Peck told director William Wyler about the gag he was going to perform but that they should not tell Audrey about it.  When Peck pulled his arm out from the mouth with his hand up his sleeve Audrey’s horror and surprise was genuine.  It was filmed in one take.
